This book is the fourth book in a series. The previous titles in the series are Hangman's Root, Witches' Bane and Thyme of Death. The main character, China Bayles, is a former lawyer who gives up law to open an herb shop (and to become an amateur detective). The series is set in a fictitious small town in Texas.
In this book, China finds her accountant, Rosemary Robbins, dead in her boyfriend's pickup truck after lending it to Rosemary. There are many suspects including former clients and an abusive ex-husband. China and her friends manage to eventually sort out the truth.
What I enjoy most about this series is the characters. They have depth; they seem like real people.
This book is a pretty light read, as many American mysteries are. Perhaps it's a little too light and perhaps the story could be told in less pages. I know other people who have been following this series. They are getting tired of the series, but I haven't yet. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries that aren't too heavy.
