Gerald’s Game
by
Stephen King
In Gerald's Game Stephen King paints a vivid picture
of a married couple's bedroom games gone horribly
wrong. Now, still handcuffed to the bed and her
husband dead on the floor while the keys to the cuffs
are across the room...what can she do to escape? What
won't she do?
Terrorized by her past memories as much as her current
reality- this woman is in for the most frightening
experience of her life- if she can survive. Imagine
what being chained to a bed with your arms above your
head and your feet shackled to the mattress would do
to you- for an indefinite amount of time! And like
any King book, anything that CAN happen WILL happen to
prevent a happy ending. As suspenseful as climbing a
flight of stairs when you don't know what's at the
landing above to push you back down, this novel has
your heart racing. It only took me 2 days to
complete, I was that engrossed.
Overall, this book is now near the top of my list of
favorite King books. The plot alone was enough to
catch anyone's interest, but also the mysterious
sub-plot of this woman's past was more than enough to
drive you to devour this book. When a writer can find
one character to basically carry the whole book, and
hardly ever become dull within over 400 pages- that's
a good character! I think the quality of this book is
that it will make classic King fan's satisfied, but
also retain him new readers since this book goes in a
bit of a new direction by not being propelled by the
supernatural as many of his books are.
