Assassin’s Apprentice
by
Robin Hobb

This is the story of the bastard son of the King-in-Waiting of a kingdom called the Six Duchies. At a very young age he is brought to the royal palace to be raised even though his father never officially acknowledges him. There he faces many dangers and adventures as he discovers his various abilities and skills.

I loved this book, but thinking back on it, I can't put my finger on any particular reason why. There was nothing really outstanding about this book except that it immediately caught my attention and held it all the way to the end. It had an interesting story and it was very well written, but not exceptionally so. The characters were easy to care about.

On the other hand, I can't think of anything very bad about this book either. My only real complaint is that it aches for a sequel. But the author has already provided us with two.
